2 Killed in North Philly Fire

A 79-year-old woman and 4-year-old girl were found dead in a second story bedroom

Ardalia Bumpus, 79, was killed in a Sunday morning house fire in North Philadelphia. Her family members say she had lived in the same home on the 1200 block of West Firth Street for 60 years.

"Everybody loved her all the kids called her grandma," said Tommasine Adams, daughter.

4-year-old Neveah Bryant was also killed in the blaze. She was the great-niece of Bumpus. Both were found dead in a second story bedroom.

Authorities say the fire broke out around 12:30 a.m. and is believed to have started in the kitchen.

Bumpus' son was able to escape the fire, along with his two nieces. He says when he went back to get his mother and 4-year-old niece Neveah, he was stopped in his tracks by the flames.

"I couldn't go up, I had to sit there and witness and watch," said Greg Bumpus, son.

One firefighter was also treated and released at a local hospital after he was hit by a falling part of the structure.

Philadelphia Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers tells NBC10 there have been 10 fire deaths so far this year. In 2011, there was a total of 16 deaths.
