A teenage girl drowned in a New Jersey lake after she went missing.
Police responded to a 911 report Tuesday of a missing swimmer at a lake in the Heritage Minerals tract of land located off of State Highway 37 in Manchester Township, New Jersey. When police arrived they learned that the 17-year-old girl was last seen by her friends in the water in an area close to the shoreline.
Members of the Manchester and Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Departments as well as the NJ State Police Aviation Unit assisted with the search. Crews eventually found the teen in the water. She was taken to the Community Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.
Officials have not yet released the girl’s identity.
