16 Puppies, 1 Adult Dog Killed in House Fire: Fire Marshal

The owner of the home, a licensed breeder, escaped unharmed. Five adult dogs and one puppy survived.

Over a dozen puppies and one adult dog are dead after a house fire in Bristol Township.

It started early Friday morning at a home on the 2100 block of Maple Avenue. Fire crews arrived at the blaze at 5:36 a.m. and placed it under control at 6:15 a.m., according to police.

The homeowner was awakened by smoke alarms and was able to escape unharmed. One adult dog and 16 puppies were killed however. The attic of the home was destroyed, according to investigators.

One puppy was pulled out alive by firefighters and was given oxygen as crews rushed the dog to a local animal hospital. No word yet on the animal’s condition. Five adult dogs also survived, according to investigators.

Investigators say the animals were show dogs and the homeowner was a licensed breeder.

The Bucks County Fire Marshal believes the fire began due to an electrical failure in the ceiling of the basement. He says the fire then worked its way up to the first floor and eventually the attic. Fire crews continue to investigate.
