Minivan Driver Exposes Himself to Children: Cops

Upper Darby police are on the hunt for a man in a minivan who is accused of exposing himself to children, and attempting to lure a little boy into his vehicle.

Police say a fifth person has come forward and reported an incident involving a man accused of exposing himself and attempting to lure children.

Police say the suspect is targeting students in Upper Darby. They also say at least three of the incidents involved Upper Darby High School students.

The latest incident happened early Tuesday morning when the man approached a 14-year-old boy near his bus stop at Radbourne and Church and offered him a ride, according to investigators.

On Monday, a man matching the same description -- heavy-set, white male with brown hair -- allegedly called out to a teen girl who was walking to Upper Darby High School. Both times, the suspect was in a blue or green-colored minivan, police say. In two of the incidents, including Monday's, police say the man exposed and touched himself before driving away.

"He was close enough that she could see his genitals exposed, and he was masturbating," Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood says. "This guy is sick but he's also dangerous."

Chitwood says he thinks the same man exposed himself to children last month and then a few days earlier, approached some kids on a playground.

The latest alleged victim came forward Tuesday night and reported an incident that occurred Monday on Huey and Windemere. The alleged incidents occurred on the following days at the following locations:

  • February 19 on Highland and Derwyn
  • February 23 on Forrest and School
  • March 5 on Brookfield and Huey
  • March 5 on Huey and Windemere
  • March 6 on Church and Radbourne

Police hope to develop a composite sketch of the man by Wednesday. For now they've alerted public and parochial schools in the area.
