14-Year-Old Joyrider Sentenced to 4 Years

The 14-year-old Philadelphia boy responsible for the death of a Bensalem man last July was sentenced on murder charges Monday.

In July, Winston Charleston was behind the wheel of his mother's Chrysler when he ran a red light on Academy Road in Northeast Philly and crashed into two cars, one a red Volkswagen, killing 22-year-old Dan Fouracre.

Charleston will spend three years at a school for court-adjudicated youth and a fourth at a facility to be determined later, according to a Family Court judge.

The teen read an apology letter to Fouracre's family before he was sentenced, but Judge Kevin Dougherty noted a lack of emotion in Charleston's statement and promised the victim's family he would closely monitor the boys treatment.

Bruce Fouracre, the victim's father, told NBC Philadelphia in July that he's not angry at the boy.

"It's a no-win situation," said Fouracre.
