120 Without Water After West Philly Main Break

A construction crew hit a water main running under a West Philadelphia street Friday afternoon leaving basements flooded and residents without water service.

The crew hit the six-inch main along the 200 block of N. Simpson Street around 5 p.m., residents and a water department spokesman told NBC10.

Water gushed into the street and basements of nearby homes until a water department crew could turn off the flow.

A water department spokesman said 120 customers were left without service. It could be early Saturday before water is flowing again.
