12-Year-Old Chester County Boy Drowns in French Creek

A 12-year-old boy found underwater at Chester County's French Creek earlier this week drowned, authorities said.

Jacob Karnchanaphati, of Gilbertsville, Pa., was walking around the rocks at the creek behind the Inn at St. Peter's Village when he slipped and fell into fast moving water, according to the State Police.

According to a report from the Chester County Coroner's office, Karnchanaphati was pronounced dead at Brandywine Hospital at 3:18 p.m. Wednesday.

Fire officers responding to a 9-1-1 call reported that the boy was in cardiac arrest when they recovered him from the creek, which is located near a quarry where drownings have occurred before.

β€œThis is an unfortunate incident and I hope it serves as a reminder to the youth not to go near the quarry,” said Pennsylvania State Police Public Information Officer Waleska Gonzalez.

Gonzalez said swimming in the quarry, which often draws swimmers, can be extremely dangerous.

"Because we want to keep everyone safe and want to prevent another tragic incident from occurring, the Pennsylvania State Police will be consistently checking the quarry as we do every summer.

Though this particular drowning occurred in the creek, Gonzalez said anyone caught swimming in the quarry will be cited for trespassing.
