Officials are investigating a Monday morning crash involving one small car loaded with 10 people.
A mother and her 1- and 2-year-old children were critically injured and seven others were hurt after the Dodge Neon crashed into a tree in Newark, N.J.
Newark Police Det. Eugenio Gonzalez said all 10 victims were trapped in the vehicle after it smashed into a tree on Irvine Turner Boulevard at about 1:30 a.m., police said.
Firefighters pulled the victims out of the mangled Neon.
The critically hurt victims were being treated at the hospital for what police described as life-threatening injuries.
None of the people were identified. It's still not clear why 10 people were inside a car intended to transport half as many. The cause of the wreck also wasn't released.
