A teen girl was killed while three other teens and two children were hurt in a crash involving a car and a school bus in New Castle, Delaware.

Four 16-year-old girls were inside a vehicle traveling at the intersection of Memorial and Karlyn drives around 3:40 p.m. Thursday. At the same time a bus from the Colonial School District carrying 22 students from Eisenberg Elementary School was traveling in the area.

Both vehicles were involved in a crash. The teen driver died from her injuries while one of her passengers was critically injured. The two other teens inside the car suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials have not released the identity of the teen who died but said she was a student at William Penn High School in New Castle.

“This is a heartbreaking time for all of us in Colonial Nation. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of the families involved,” Superintendent Dr. Dusty Blakey said.

All of the students on the bus were accounted for. Two boys who were on board suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital as a precaution. They were later released to their parents.

Counselors, administrators and crisis teams will be available at William Penn High School on Friday to assist students coping with the tragedy.
