1 Dead, 2 Hurt in Pa. Turnpike Crash

Westbound lanes on the Pennsylvania Turnpike reopened Wednesday night hours after a deadly crash created a traffic nightmare.

State Police say a vehicle was traveling in the westbound lanes of the turnpike near milemarker 307.1 at 4:09 p.m. in Wallace Township, Chester County when the driver somehow lost control.

The vehicle flipped over and ejected two of the three passengers.

One person who was ejected was killed in the accident. The other two passengers were injured. Officials have not yet revealed their conditions.

The westbound lanes of the turnpike were closed between the Downingtown exit(#312) and Morgantown exit(#298) due to the crash. Traffic was backed up for several miles in the westbound lanes as crews worked to clear the scene.

Officials created detours for the drivers who were stuck for hours in traffic. Finally, around 10:10 p.m., westbound lanes reopened on the turnpike.

Officials have not yet revealed the identities of the victims or the cause of the crash. They continue to investigate.
