DUI Driver Smashes Moving Car, Parked Cars, Injures 1: Cops

Police say the driver of a car crashed into another car, that car hit a row of parked cars and the offending driver continued on, smashing more vehicles before coming to a stop underneath a parked car.

A man is charged with DUI and his passenger is hospitalized following a multi-car crash in the Port Richmond section of the city.

The original impact happened on Richmond and Clearfield Streets around 2:25 a.m., about an hour after a bar shooting and attempted robbery just blocks away.

Police tell NBC10, a man driving a Volkswagen Passat crashed into a car, sending it into a row of parked cars.

The Volkswagen continued down Richmond Street, hitting more parked cars along the way, before coming to a stop underneath a parked car.

The Passat caught on fire.

Now, the driver of the Volkswagen sedan is charged with Driving Under the Influence.

"I seen him staggering in the street with his girlfriend, trying to go back into the car when the car was already on fire," one resident whose car was damaged by the driver tells NBC10.

His female passenger was transported to Hahnemann University Hospital where she is being treated for unknown injures. No word on her condition.

No one else was injured in the crash, although many parked cars were heavily damaged.

"What am I going to do for a car?" asks the resident.
