1 Dead in Route 222 Crash

One person is dead after a fiery crash involving a tractor trailer and at least two other vehicles on Route 222 in Berks County.

It happened Friday shortly after 3 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Route 222 in Wyomissing, according to WFMZ.

WFMZ reports the accident involved a tractor trailer and at least two other vehicles. The tractor trailer also caught on fire during the crash though the driver was able to escape, according to WFMZ.

A coroner was called to the scene, according to the Berks County Dispatch. No word yet on the identity of the victim.

Route 222 was closed in both directions. WFMZ reports the northbound lanes were later reopened but with a significant backup of traffic. Southbound lanes remain closed.
