1 Dead, 1 Injured in Northern Liberties Shooting

A mother died and her child was critically hurt in a double shooting inside their Northern Liberties home Sunday.

Police were called to the 700 block of North 3rd Street, between Fairmount Avenue and Brown Street, shortly before 9 p.m.

Investigators say someone shot the 65-year-old woman in the head. Medics pronounced her dead at the scene. Her 41-year-old transgender daughter was shot in the face and transported to Hahnemann University Hospital where she remained in critical condition Monday.

Police withheld the victims' identities pending family notification.

Police investigated the scene for nearly eight hours overnight.

"There was a very violent scene inside. There was blood on all three floors and also some ballistic evidence inside the property," said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.

No arrests were made as of Monday afternoon.

Police say the alleged shooter is a man.
