1 Dead, 1 Critical in Camden Fire

Police say an unidentified man died in the fire while a 20-year-old woman suffered burns on 60% of her body.

One man is dead and one woman is injured after a fire in Camden.

The 1-alarm blaze began Saturday at 4:45 a.m. at a home on the 600 block of Point Street.

Police say the male victim was burned so badly that investigators still haven't identified him.

Authorities say he had on a chain with a religious medallion and stood between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-9.

The 20-year-old woman was taken to Temple Hospital where she is suffering from burns covering 60% of her body. She is currently in critical condition. Investigators say the woman repeatedly went back inside the home to try and save the man. They also believe she was living inside the abandoned house.

Investigators say the fire was not suspicious and was most likely caused by candles. They continue to investigate.

The medallion has been identified as the Infant of Prague, Our Lady of Mount Carmel. An inscription on it reads, "Regina Sacri Scapularis Ora Pro Nobis."
