3 Arrested After Planning to Graffiti New South Street Bridge

Suspects told police they were about to "tag" the South Street Bridge

Three people are in state police custody after they were caught attempting to spray paint the newly renovated South Street Bridge just hours after it’s reopening.

It happened at 2:37 a.m. Sunday morning when patrol officers noticed the trio walking from an area near the bridge where there was a large amount of graffiti.

Two men and a 16-year-old fled on foot across the train tracks at 30th Street station as police approached them. After a brief chase the suspects were arrested.

Police say they found a can of spray paint on one of the suspects.

The three told police they were en route to “tag” the newly constructed South Street Bridge.

The damaged is estimated at $500.
