The need for bone marrow transplants is constant and this weekend you could find out if you could be a match to save someone’s life.
On Sunday a bone marrow drive will be held at Tiferet Bet Israel Congregation (1920 Skippack Pike, Blue Bell, Pa.) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
A simple and easy swab can help determine if you are a match for someone fighting Leukemia who needs a bone marrow transplant.
Sunday’s drive is trying to find a donor for 30-year-old Jennie Sheiman Katz who was recently diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Katz, a Cherry Hill, N.J. native who currently lives in Center City, needs a marrow transplant to survive.
They are calling the event Swab4Jennie.
Testing is free Sunday. To be eligible potential donors must be between 18 and 61 years old. Even if you aren't a match for Katz you might be able to give marrow to someone else who is battling Leukemia. The results for anyone who is tested will be kept in a national registry.
Even if you can’t make it Sunday you can still help by making a donation to cover the cost of testing kits at Katz’s website.
