Officials in Delaware's biomedical research industry are gathering to review recent changes in federal funding priorities and resulting adjustments in a state program aimed at fostering biomedical research.
Industry representatives planned to gather Wednesday at the Delaware Biotechnology Institute for a breakfast presentation by Steven Stanhope, principal investigator for Delaware IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence, or INBRE.
The purpose of the INBRE program is to develop a statewide pipeline of biomedical research personnel who can successfully compete for biomedical research grants, funded by the National Institutes of Health and other agencies.
The Delaware program was launched in 2001 and is up for renewal in 2014. Officials say it has secured $45 million from NIH to build research infrastructure.
