West Nile Virus Kills Philly Man

This is the 2nd time this year a Pennsylvanian died after contracting the virus

A Philadelphia man died from West Nile Virus, Pennsylvania health officials announced Thursday.

The unidentified man contracted the mosquito-borne virus Sept. 21, according to the state’s West Nile Virus website

This marks the 25h instance of the virus affecting humans in the Keystone State. Five of those instances were in Philadelphia.

An 82-year-old Luzerne County man is the only other person to die from West Nile Virus in Pennsylvania this year after he developed a fever, weakness and respiratory distress.

A 77-year-old man from Willingboro, N.J. and an elderly woman from Delaware also died from the virus.
