Help for Kids with Food Allergies

FAIRFAX, Va. - 2.2 million school-age children have food allergies. As they head back to school, keeping them safe becomes of even more concern to parents and caregivers. Food allergens can be found almost everywhere in a school setting: from the cafeteria, to science and art classes, to celebrations in any classroom. As part of a push to help educate kids and adults on keeping children with allergies safe, the Protect a Life ™ From Food Allergies, or PAL, program was formed. According to Anne Munoz-Furlong, Founder and CEO of the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN), “managing food allergies is a group effort.” To Be a PAL, simply follow these 5 easy steps: 1. Don’t make jokes about food allergies. They are serious. 2. Don't share food with friends who have food allergies. 3. Wash your hands after eating. 4. Ask what your friends are allergic to, and help them avoid it. 5. If a friend who has food allergies becomes ill, get help immediately!
