Dentist's Patients at Risk for Serious Infection: Officials

Health officials are warning patients of a Pennsylvania dentist that they might be at risk for infection of hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV.

The Pennsylvania Health Department says an investigation found Dr. Jacqueline Marcin did not follow appropriate procedures to properly clean, disinfect and sterilize devices at her dental office on E Market Street in York.

There haven't been any infections reported but patients are being urged to get tested for HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C if they were treated directly by Marcin. That includes fillings, tooth removals, denture fittings and other procedures.

Those who got routine cleanings or checkups by other staff members aren't included in the testing advisory.

Marcin's license was suspended on April 29 and her office is closed while the investigation continues.

The Department of Health answered many more questions about what people who were treated by Marcin should do to ensure they weren't exposed.
