1st Flu Death of Year

Public health officials say the state of Delaware has had its first flu-related death of 2014.

The Division of Public Health said Friday that a 50-year-old woman from central Sussex County died on Jan. 6. Lab tests later confirmed that the woman had influenza type A. Officials say the woman had no known underlying conditions.

The department says flu is widespread in Delaware and the U.S., with 655 cases reported in Delaware. Ninety-seven percent were influenza type A.

Health officials say residents can still get vaccinated against the flu. Details are at www.flu.delaware.gov.
