NJ Lawmakers Vote on Preserving Open Space

The New Jersey Assembly is scheduled to vote on a constitutional amendment that would dedicate a portion of business tax revenue to preserving open space.

The Assembly is due to take up the matter on Monday.

The amendment has already been approved by the state Senate.

If at least 48 of the 60 Assembly members vote for it, it will be on the public ballot in November.

Under the proposed measure, 6 percent of the state's corporate business tax revenue would go to preserving open space and some other environmental initiatives. Four percent now goes to environmental projects, but not to open space.
