Dozens of new bald eagle nests are being reported across Pennsylvania this spring.
Officials with the Pennsylvania Game Commission say new nests have so far been sighted in Lebanon County, Allegheny County, Blair County and Bucks County. They've also been spotted in Chester, Indiana, Lancaster, Lawrence, Northumberland and Schuylkill counties.
The Patriot-News of Harrisburg reports that earlier this year a midwinter bald eagle survey documented 101 adult bald eagles, along with 65 immature ones and four birds of an undetermined age.
Game commission officials also say they've identified peregrine falcons at 40 sites and that five pairs were known to have laid eggs by late march. They say the state is off to a good start this year.
Once considered endangered, the bald eagle was taken off the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s endangered species list nearly six years ago.
