Delaware House Candidates Debate Health Care

House candidate Glen Urquhart says Obama's health care plan needs to be scrapped

Republican congressional candidate Glen Urquhart says President Obama's health care reform plan needs to be scrapped, while Democrat John Carney says it merely needs tweaking.

The two candidates for Delaware's lone U.S. House seat discussed health care Wednesday in a debate sponsored by the state chamber of commerce.

Urquhart says the health care bill creates a costly new federal bureaucracy at the expense of the doctor-patient relationship.

Carney says the bill is not perfect but is a good starting point for getting health care costs under control. But he is concerned about a provision requiring most individuals to purchase coverage, saying it's premature to have such a mandate until there's a guarantee that affordable coverage will be available.
