Sledgehammer Used to Get Inside Polling Place

Watchdog group says officials had to break into locked voting location

Forgot your keys and need to open up a polling place? Maybe a sledgehammer can do the trick.

At least that seemed to be the case Tuesday morning at one polling place in West Philadelphia.

Polling place officials showed up to the voting location to find it locked and since no one had a key they used a sledgehammer to get inside, watchdog group Committee of Seventy told NBC Philadelphia's Steve Highsmith.

The polls were up and running after a few minutes, officials said. Once opened there were no more reported problems at that specific location, they said.

Committee officials didn’t have details on the exact location or type of polling place.

But they did offer some advice for the future:

"Seventy is not recommending this approach," they tweeted.
