Three Area Supermarkets Closing

Three area supermarkets are becoming the latest victims of the current economic crisis.

ACME Markets is closing its stores in West Chester, Collegeville and Ambler, Pa., the supermarket chain said Tuesday.

All employees have been given the option to transfer to other store locations.

ACME spokesperson Karen Duckett said the company constantly evaluates its business to optimize operating efficiency.

“While these decisions are difficult, given the impact to employees and customers, they allow us to operate more efficiently and effectively in a highly competitive retail environment,” Duckett said.
