Credit scoring: Some questions, answers

The announcement by GMAC Financial Services last week that it would use federal bailout funds to resume lending to people with credit scores below 700 was good news for its affiliate, General Motors Corp., and the auto industry in general. It may also be a harbinger of a broader thaw in lending in 2009, as the bailout and other government actions have reduced lenders' costs and risks.
