Circuit City to close 155 stores, lay off 17% of its U.S. workers

RICHMOND, Va. - Circuit City Stores Inc. said yesterday that it was closing 155 stores and cutting thousands of jobs to try to withstand consumers reluctant to spend and vendors less than eager to give the company badly needed loans.
