UDel Auctions Off Newark Chrysler Plant

Do you want to own a part of a car factory?

You will be getting that chance. Items from the recently shuttered Chrysler plant in Newark, Del. will be auctioned off by the University of Delaware on Feb. 25.

Some of this stuff you can't get anywhere else.

Tools for your home workshop, cleaning, heating and cooling equipment or even large complex machinery will be auctioned off. You can even bid for one of those carts that cruise around car manufacturing plants.

Pictures of everything that will be up for bids were posted on the Great American Group’s Web site.

Everyone can get a sneak peek at the 272-acre plant and everything inside on Feb. 22 to 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The auction will start at 10 a.m. on the 25th.

The best part for the bidder: There will be no minimum bids and the whole auction is open to the public.

UDel hopes to auction off as much as possible in order to build new research and academic spaces after the plant is torn down.

"The University's goal for this auction is to re-purpose many of the existing assets… and to realize resources to make UDel's vision for this technology and advanced research site a reality," said J.J. Davis, vice president for administration.
