Stay in a Center City Hotel for 1 Dollar — No Joke

Dollar hotel rooms -- you're kidding right?

Nope.

It's true -- one buck will get you a room for a night at the Alexander Inn at 12th and Spruce Streets in Center City Philadelphia.

"The Guest Stimulus Package," as it's been tabbed, should leave some more cash in the pocket of some visitors to Philadelphia.

The boutique hotel is running the deal to try to get people to come to Philadelphia and spend money elsewhere within the city, according to innkeeper John Cochie.

Every room in the hotel won't cost a buck but if wannabe guests are quick to confirm their reservation they can be lucky enough to snag up one of the five rooms available each weeknight (Sunday to Thursday nights only).

NBC Philadelphia got some insider tips from the innkeeper about how to secure a one-dollar room.

It's first come first serve so you must be quick to stay for a buck.

Reservations are only taken on the phone 30 days in advance of the stay. If you want to book a room for April 22 then you should call 215.923.3535 or 877.ALEX.INN right at 8 a.m. on March 22 to get the deal.

Guests can only stay one night for a dollar but are encouraged to stay longer in Center City.

The plan began this week and will run until May 21 but may get extended due to an "overwhelming positive response," said Cochie.

Also, we must note that guests also have to 15 cents in taxes -- "hotel rooms for a buck-15" just doesn't have the same ring.
