Chester County Medical Device Maker to Build $127M Plant in Ireland

West Pharmaceutical Services Inc. said Thursday it plans to build a new $127 million manufacturing plant in Waterford, Ireland.

The new facility will primarily be used by the Lionville, Pa., medical products manufacturer and services company to produce packaging components for insulin injector cartridges. It will also make other packaging products for West's pharmaceutical and biotechnology company customers.

Donald E. Morel Jr., West’s chairman and CEO, said the company needs to expand its manufacturing capacity to meet growing the demand from its pharmaceutical customers, which are expanding their production lines for injectable insulin. “Diabetes [is] emerging as one of the fastest growing diseases globally,” Morel said.
