An elevator manufacturer is moving its New Jersey operation to Tennessee and laying off 50 workers.
Computerized Elevator Control Corp., ThyssenKrupp Elevator Americas has filed a letter with the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development regarding the move.
The Record reports that the German-owned company, which has its U.S. base in Texas, will lay off the New Jersey workers Feb. 28.
“The closure is a result of the need to centralize and streamline operations to optimize efficiency," spokeswoman Sasha Bailey told the paper.
Bailey said they'll offer 8 to 10 employees positions elsewhere in the company, and work with other affected employees.
"We will work with the affected employees to help them locate other employment opportunities within ThyssenKrupp Elevator or provide them with severance benefits and outplacement support," Bailey said.
ThyssenKrupp, a subsidiary of a company based in Duisburg and Essen, Germany, calls itself the “largest producer of elevators in the Americas.”
