A Philadelphia philanthropist is giving $50 million to the city's renowned children's hospital.
The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia said Wednesday that Raymond Perelman's gift matches the largest the hospital has received.
The hospital said it'll use the money to establish a research funding supporting its Center for Cellular and Molecular Therapeutics, Fund for Research Innovation and Endowed Chair in Pediatric Ophthalmology.
It'll also support general research and two new tenure-track faculty positions for pediatric research.
The hospital said it'll name eight acres of its University City campus in honor of the 97-year-old Perelman.
Perelman has given nearly $340 million to Philadelphia-area organizations, including $225 million to the University of Pennsylvania.
He said he's fortunate to be able to help a tremendous resource like Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
