Rain Forces Pocono Ski Slope to Close Days After Opening Season

Warm temperatures have pushed back skiing at an eastern Pennsylvania ski resort.

Bear Creek Mountain Resort in Macungie opened for its first full day of skiing Friday with half its trails.

The Morning Call of Allentown reports the resort shut down on Sunday as rain turned the man-made snow into slush.

The 2014-2015 season began around Thanksgiving at many resorts. Bear Creek logged nearly 100 days of skiing.

This season the resort will have to offer discounts to season pass holders if the slopes aren't open for at least 65 days.

The National Weather Service says temperatures are expected to plummet this week, with night temperatures in the teens and day temperatures around freezing.

Officials say the slopes should be in good condition for the weekend.
