Mother, Daughter Die in Bensalem Fire

Preliminary investigation finds that electrical fire appears to be storm-related

Two women died in an overnight electrical fire in Bucks County that authorities say appears to have been storm-related.

Officials say it happened early Wednesday morning at a home on Marion Avenue and Street Road in Bensalem. Two women were inside the house when the fire broke out.

Jeff Moran, a spokesman for the Philadelphia medical examiner's office, identified the victims as 64-year-old Kathryn Griffin and 90-year-old Helen Markert.

He said they were both pronounced dead at Aria Health-Torresdale in Philadelphia, where they were taken following the 3 a.m. Wednesday blaze.

Three volunteer firefighters were reported injured battling the flames, which were first spotted by a passer-by in the Bucks County community.

The official cause of the fire remained under investigation but a preliminary investigation ruled the fire to be accidental and related in someway to Sandy, according to Bensalem Police.
