Fire at South Philly Recycling Center Warehouse

No reports of injuries in 1-alarm blaze

A large warehouse burned near the foot of Walt Whitman Bridge in South Philadelphia Thursday morning.

Flames broke out at a trash and recycling center at 2904 S Delaware Avenue sometime before 11:30 a.m.

Heavy smoke could be seen coming from the fire.

There were no reports of injuries.

Nearby roadways including I-95 and the Walt Whitman remained open during the blaze, authorities said.

Philly 311 lists the building as the Browning-Ferris Industries recycling center.

Hazmat crews were called to the scene because authorities were unsure exactly what was on fire inside the building, according to firefighters.

The fire was officially brought under control just before 12:40 p.m., according to firefighters.

The cause of the blaze was being investigated.
