Underground Explosions in Norristown

There were two underground explosions Tuesday afternoon along Main Street in Norristown, Pa.

Norristown firefighters were sent to a building on the 100 block of W Main Street (between Barbados and Cherry Streets) around 2:30 p.m. after reports of smoke.

There were high levels of carbon monoxide and smoke when firefighters arrived, said Norristown Fire Chief Tom O'Donnell.

Two commercial buildings were damaged by a series of two blasts, O'Donnell said.

There were no immediate reports of injuries, fire officials said.

The entire block was evacuated as firefighters worked to figure out what happened and air out the building.
