UDel Students Robbed at Gunpoint During Home Invasion

Two thieves attacked, robbed 2 students in off-campus apartment

Two burglars, one carrying a gun, broke into an off-campus apartment of two University of Delaware students early Monday morning, Newark Police said.

One of the residents was in his bedroom at the West Knoll Apartments on Elkton Road when the alleged suspects burst in around 2:10 a.m. The other resident came home as the robbery was in progress and was ordered into the same bedroom at gunpoint, cops said.

As the two victims, age 20 and 21, were held by the gun-toting suspect, the other suspect rifled through the rest of the apartment, police said.

As they were being held the suspect beat the two men demanding that they not look at him, said cops.

Both victims suffered minor lacerations and contusions in the attack. They were treated and released from Christiana Hospital.

The two alleged thieves eventually left the apartment. They made off with a computer, cell phones and cash, authorities said.

These are the descriptions given by police of the suspects:

Suspect 1: light-skinned black male, 18 to 22 years old, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10, 160 to 175 pounds, wearing dark pants, dark hooded sweatshirt and a black mask that covered half of his face.

Suspect 2: white male, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8, 150 to 160 pounds, wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt.

It wasn’t immediately clear why the victims were targeted.

This is the latest incident where thieves targeted Newark-area college students. Since the beginning of summer there have been home invasions and an incident where students were attacked with pepper spray and robbed.
