Blaze blocks northbound lanes

A big rig caught fire Wednesday afternoon on the northbound lanes of the the Pennsylvania Turnpike's Northeast Extension (I-476).

The tractor-trailer fire snarled traffic below mile marker 22.7 of the highway after it caught fire around 3:45 p.m. while driving in Whitpain Township.

There was no report of injuries.

Traffic could be seen backing up after the road was closed as firefighters worked to extinguish the flames.

By 5 p.m. the fire was out and the wreck was pushed over to the shoulder but some delays remained.
