Temple Football Player Accused of 2 Rapes: Sources

Two unnamed Temple University football players were being investigated for an alleged sexual assault, Philadelphia Special Victims Unit police and university officials confirmed Monday night.

The alleged incident happened around 2:30 Saturday morning in a dorm on the 1300 block of Cecil B Moore Avenue on the Temple campus, police said.

In a perhaps startling twist, Tuesday police said that another woman had come forward claiming she was raped on the North Philadelphia campus on Nov. 11.

Sources told NBC Philadelphia's Deanna Durante that one of the players accused in the first reported rape is being investigated for the Nov. 11 rape as well.

The newest rape allegation wasn't reported until Nov. 18, police said.

In the Saturday morning incident a female student accepted an invitation to go to the dorm room of two freshman athletes, police said.

Later she was allegedly raped, said cops.

Alcohol was a factor, authorities said.

The victim from the more recent rape was treated at Temple Hospital and authorities were waiting for the medical results.

Police related the alleged earlier rape to the Saturday incident after reports of the more recent alleged assault came to light.

As of Tuesday night there were still no charges in either case and police were calling the reported incidents allegations.

Reports of the police investigation sent shock waves through the North Philly campus especially since two members of the Owls football team were allegedly at fault. Coach Al Golden's 8-3 Owls are having one of their best seasons in the history of the school and are seemingly bowl bound for the second-straight season.

It isn't clear if the rape allegations were a distraction as the Owls lost 23-3 at Miami (Ohio) Tuesday night.
