Man Shows Up at Pennsylvania Prison, Fires Gun, Gets Shot

A man who appeared with a gun at a county prison in Gettysburg and fired several shots has been shot once by a responding officer.

State police say the man was taken into custody outside the Adams County Prison on Thursday afternoon and was transported to a hospital.

County Commissioner Randy Phiel says the man had fired several shots in the prison's parking lot.

Police say the man's medical condition is unknown and the reason he showed up at the prison is under investigation.

County buildings were locked down for about an hour because of the shooting.

The county commissioner says cloud cover and fog prevented a medical helicopter from being able to take the man to a hospital so he was driven there in an ambulance.
