No Kids Hurt in School Bus Fire

Bus catches fire in Wilmington, Del.

A school bus suddenly caught fire in New Castle County Thursday morning as it was headed to McKean High School.

Luckily, none of the 30 or so students on board were hurt when it caught fire around 7 a.m. on the 400 block of McKennan-Church Road in Wilmington, Del., according to county authorities.

The bus driver Phillip Rodriguez was able to get all the students, who ranged from ninth to 12th graders, off the bus safely, police said.

Rodriguez was hailed for following proper protocol in getting the kids safely off the bus.

The bus is owned Boulden Buses Inc. in Wilmington.

Boulden Bus owner Kenny Darsney said that he thinks that mandated bus evacuation drills were valuable in making sure the kids knew what to do in an emergency.

The cause of blaze was under investigation but the owner of the bus company believes it might have started in a fuel line.
