Smoke Shuts Down SEPTA's Broad Street Line

SEPTA shuttle buses passengers down Broad Street as authorities investigate a report of smoke in the subway

SEPTA shuttle bused passengers between Lombard-South Station to AT&T Station (formerly Pattison Avenue) Tuesday morning as police investigated a report of smoke in the Broad Street Line subway.

Around 10:30 a.m. SEPTA said in a release that they were busing passengers up and down Broad Street in South Philly due to police activity.

Firefighters told NBC10 that there were reports of smoke in the subway in the area of the Broad and Oregon.

As of 10:40 a.m. authorities say firefighters had yet to locate a source for the reported smoke.

By 10:55 firefighters told NBC10 that they believed the smoke was caused by faulty breaks on one of the trains. The situation was under control, firefighters said.

Around the same time SEPTA told NBC10 that the partial shutdown continued.

SEPTA says that as of 11:20 a.m. the all clear was given and normal service resumed to and from the Stadium Complex. The transit authority says passengers could experience residual delays as service returns to normal.
