Cops Staging Preparedness Drill Wednesday Morning

The Philadelphia Police Department of Homeland Security will be holding a rapid response exercise

Don't necessarily be alarmed if you see police vehicles with lights and sirens in and around Center City Wednesday morning.

Starting around 10:30 a.m. the Philadelphia Police Department’s Homeland Security Unit will be conducting a rapid development exercise to prep for emergency situations.

To start, Rapid Response teams in police vehicles will be deployed to the corner of 22nd and JFK without sirens. They will then deploy into Center City, at a normal speed, using their lights and sirens.

The exercise is being called a “proactive approach to emergency preparedness throughout the city,” by the Police Department.

The entire process is expected to take about an hour and a half and should not cause any traffic jams or roadblocks, police say.
