Arrest in Murder of Officer's Son

Teen arrested for the murder of 24-year-old Dennis Gore Jr.

An arrest has been made in the murder of 24-year-old Dennis Gore Jr., son of a Philadelphia police officer who was gunned down on February 8th.

On Friday, investigators announced 18-year-old Rasheed Gey was taken into custody and charged.

Gey, of the 5400 block of Stewart Street, is charged with murder, reckless endangering another person, and violation of the uniform fire arms act.

Gore was shot five times in the chest last week, when he was walking home in broad daylight with the mother of his 6-year-old daughter, police said.

Gore had just left a store at 55th and Lansdowne in West Philadelphia with some food. He was headed home to eat when the gunman walked up to him, never uttered a word, and started firing his "large caliber" gun, police said.

"It's a mystery to us. He has a girlfriend, he has two small children, he works every day, he has had no involvement or negative contact with the police his entire life, so we don't know what this is about," said Deputy Police Commissioner Richard Ross.

"I've seen people in the streets, I know people in the streets and Dennis wasn't even close to that life," said a friend of Gore's. "That's why this hurts so bad."

Relatives had to slowly break the news to Gore's 6-year-old daughter.

"She knew something was wrong," said Mike Taylor, Gore's uncle. "She knew her daddy's not here."
