Philly Heat Wave Kills 70-Year-Old Man

This is the 4th heat death of the season in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia officials say the region's latest heat wave has claimed the life of the fourth person so far this season.

Health Department spokesman Jeff Moran says a 70-year-old man with a history of cardiovascular disease was found dead in the second-floor bedroom of a Mount Airy home. He says fans were operating in the room and the windows were closed.

The Philadelphia Inquirer says three deaths were reported in the city as the result of earlier hot weather, and one in Montgomery County.

The 90-degree temperature recorded at the airport was the fifth consecutive day of temperatures in the 90s, with more expected for the next five days.

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch in effect from Wednesday afternoon through the weekend.
