The wound is not life-threatening and no one else was injured, according to investigators.

The detective, who police are not identifying, was taken to Underwood-Memorial Hospital in Woodbury. The Incident is currently under investigation.

This is the second accidental shooting involving an officer today. A police officer shot himself in the foot this morning at a police gun range in Montgomery County, Pa.

NBC10 reached out to the FBI to find out the number of accidental shootings involving police officers for the past year nationwide. The FBI told us that they did not have statistics for non-fatal accidental police officer shootings. However, they did tell NBC10 that a total of six officers died from accidental shootings since 2011. Five of those officers were accidentally shot and killed by other officers during mishap shootings while one officer was accidentally shot by him/herself.
