Officers Shoot Man as He Stabs Father Inside New Jersey Home: Police

Police in Mercer County, New Jersey shot a man investigators say was in the process of stabbing his parents inside a Mercer County home.

Police arrived at a home on the 1600 block of Nottinghill Lane in Kuser Village in Hamilton Township shortly before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. When they arrived they found a 36-year-old man -- later identified as Shawn Clyde -- stabbing his 54-year-old father, said the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office.

Police Clyde to repeatedly drop the steak knife but he refused to do so, said investigators. Officers then shot the man to stop him from stabbing his father even more.

Officers also found Clyde's 54-year-old mother suffering from stab wounds.

The suspect and his parents were taken to the Capital Health Regional Medical Center.

On Thursday, county prosecutors charged Clyde with attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapons counts. He remained hospitalized and bail was set at $500,000.
