Man Rescued After Jumping Into River to Save Dog

Officials say a man jumped into the river to save his dog who had fallen in.

A man and his dog are recovering after they were rescued from the Delaware River.

It happened Saturday near Rhawn Street and State Road in Northeast Philadelphia. Police say the man was walking his dog in that area when the animal ran into the water. The man then went into the river after his dog but became trapped in the water.

A Police K9 unit responded to the scene and threw the man a rope. The man, who was holding onto a pier as well as his dog, was unable to grab it however. A marine unit then arrived and pulled both the dog and his owner to safety.

Police say both the man and the dog are expected to be okay.
