Water Main Break Closes Manayunk's Main Street

A water main broke along Manayunk’s Main Street causing potential traffic problems Friday morning.

Crews were called to Main Street between Grape and Levering streets around 4:30 a.m., said Philadelphia Water Department spokesman John DiGiulio.

Crews shut off the water gushing from the 8-inch main around 5:30 a.m. but a big mess remained as mud and debris covered much of Main Street.

The break left 30 to 40 customers without water, said DiGiulio.

Expect traffic delays in the area as crews work to cleanup. Cresson Street could be used as an alternate route, said NBC10 First Alert Traffic reporter Jessica Boyington.

The water department hoped to make repairs and have the area cleaned up and water service restored by the afternoon.
